Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Another GE rotary design question
About 10 yrs ago we bought a G.E. model tvx22zkc refrigerator, The other day it began to run and 50 degrees was as low as it would get temp. wise, we called the repairman and he said the G.E. fridge, had a rotary compressor that was junk from day one. Do you agree with this? he also said it was not worth fixing, I hate this throw away thinking. I used to buy Freon for our walk in fridge-freezer, and take care of it myself, if I could get Freon I'd replace the compressor, and recharge, but no can do, any suggestions? Thanks in advance,
Sorry to give you the bad news but the tech you talked to was absolutely right. I've come across the same thing with many of my customers with this model. Unfortunately you can't even replace the compressors on them without changing the entire undercarriage because the existing condenser won't work with a normal compressor. This often will end up costing more then buying a new refrigerator.
Also, adding Freon to this system won’t help as the reason it isn’t working properly is likely due to restrictions caused by aluminum contamination in the system.
