Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Compressor starter damaged because of dust accumulation?
I have a GE Side by Side frig - Model number TFX24RLG, Serial Number AA234248. My frig stopped working last weekend, I had a GE repairman come out on Monday. He explained the problem was underneath the frig was too dusty. He cleaned it. Well, he did not do a good job, because my frig stopped working again today. My husband and his friend spent 2 hours cleaning under the frig(it was bad). Now the compressor will not kick back on. Any suggestions?
If the compressor won't start after it has cooled down and had a chance for the pressures to equalize,(3 to 5 min), perhaps the starter has been damaged by all the overheating. All the dust you had there before likely caused the compressor to cut on and off again hundreds of times until you noticed that something was wrong. By this time the starter has likely been damaged. To solve this problem you likely need to install a new compressor starter.
We were looking for a reset switch but were unable to find one.
The overload automatically resets, it's thermally activated so it will reset when it cools off. You will find no compressor reset button on any refrigerator.
We are thinking maybe it is in defrost mode? But we do not know how long that mode lasts? Do You?
In defrost mode no fans will run and the compressor won't even try to start. If it was simply in the defrost mode, the cycle takes about 21 minuets.
