Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Cools for a while then stops
Maybe you can offer some advice. I have a 12 year old GE that blows cold air in the freezer when you first plug it in, but then warms the freezer to 50 degrees in a couple of hours an never cools down. Any thoughts?
Hi, if it cools at first then stops, sounds like the compressor overheats and cuts out. This can be because of a dust clogged condenser or if this unit has one, a fan near the compressor that doesn’t work, or the compressor itself drawing too much current.
If the compressor stays running through all this then it likely has a Freon leak. This would be a system problem that you would have to call someone in about.
