Testing a compressor with an ohm meter
Hi Doc, How can I test my refrigerator compressor with a meter, if its good or needs replacing.
An ohm meter will only be able to detect open windings. In some cases an amp meter can let you know if it is drawing too much current. Seldom will measurements with these meters give us enough information to diagnose a problem though. Most of the time we find out if the compressor is faulty by how it acts when problems occur with the refrigeration unit. If you can give me some information about this I can probably offer my opinion of what may be wrong.
