Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Let it thaw out but still not working

My 4 year old Admiral (Designer Series) fridge is not cooling. The freezer is still going strong but the fridge has lost all its cool. We were told to turn it off and let it sit for anywhere from 4-12 hours and then turn it back on. Nothing has happened. Was told it could be a defrost timer.

Please advise!

If it isn't defrosting you would need to turn off a 4 year old refrigerator for way more then 4-12 hours. Try 24hrs with the doors ajar to defrost by heat leakage. This is because more recent designs have more insulation in them than the older one did. Then if it works for a week or so you know for sure it's an automatic defrost problem.

Don’t just give it a shot in the dark and replace the timer though, because you may be wasting your time and money. Whether it's the timer or not has to be first tested out. The timer is only one of 3 components that make the circuit work. My book or video you can review back on my web site explain how to trace which component is at fault.
