Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Door won’t close unless you push it hard
My problem with my refrigerator is the door. It seems to stop short (about one inch) of closing completely. Is this the seal or hinge that needs to be repaired? The refrigerator is about 15 years old and still seems to keep things cool when the door stays closed. Thanks for any advice or help.
It’s probably that the whole door is out of position. What happens in most of these cases is the liner of the door bumps into the edge of the inside wall of the fridge cabinet(it’s hard to see where though because by this time the door is almost in the closed position).
The reason it will close if you push it, is because the plastic will flex or there may be play on the hinges. If the hinge or piece that it fits into is worn out you may have to get a new part for the door, or sometimes this can be solved by merely adjusting the hinges. I find most hinge adjustments are by trial and error.
