Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Door won’t stay closed

I have a six-year old refrigerator on which the door won't stay closed very well. Is the seal around the door magnetic?

Yes

Does the magnetic seal wear out after only a few years?

No

Is it easily replaced?

No, they are quite tricky to replace.

Could it be something else? Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

If the gasket doesn’t contact all around, the magnet placed just under the plastic of the seal has not as much ability to hold the door tight against the frame. Sounds like your door may be twisted and needs an adjustment.

You could also jack up the front legs so gravity helps to hold the door closed. If you are interested in repairing it yourself let me know and I’ll send more details.
