Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Is it hard to replace gaskets?

I'm just trying to find out an inexpensive way to replace the rubber stripping on my refrigerator door. All of the places in my area want to charge me for coming over and replacing it and I'd like to do it myself if at all possible. Do you have any advice for me?

Sounds like you’re on a tight budget. Anyway, beware that door gaskets are very tricky to install. If you’re not quite mechanically inclined or you can’t get someone that can help you do this that is, I’d advise hiring a tech.

The reason for this is that if you try and fail it’s hard to get a tech to come over and straighten it out. This is because they haven’t sold you the part, which makes up some of the profit they may realize on the job. Sometimes you have to keep at trying to get them to form over a period of several days. I'll include the article out of my book that describes this procedure. Good luck with it.
