Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

My refrigerator is frosting up, should I replace the gasket?

My 18 year old Whirlpool frostless, develops frost in the freezer and I believe the frost freezes up the fan that cools the refrigerator. The refrigerator is maintaining only a 65 degree temperature. I have a new gasket for the freezer that I ordered from whirlpool. After reading your article, it seems that it could be a defrost component problem? So, should I return the gasket and order your video? Thanks,

My opinion is, unless your door gasket is torn or leaking, no use replacing it because that wouldn't cause what you describe.

You do have an automatic defrost problem though. One thing that may help temporarily is to let the thing thaw out for 24 hours with the doors open. Then if it runs okay for about 1 to 3 weeks our suspicions are confirmed.
