Some tips on getting a new gasket to fit

I have a side by side GE older build 87, 23.5cu.ft. TFX245. I can't get the Fresh food side door to close tight. I replaced the gasket it still doesn't close. Is there a trick to adjusting the door somehow? I have checked and the fridge is level. What can I do??

If you installed a new gasket what you need to do now is straighten the door so it fits all around. Loosen the screws(just a bit) under the gasket on the side opposite the hinges. Twist the door so it fits right, tighten the top and bottom 2 screws, check again. Then retighten the rest.

New gaskets do take a while to form in properly as well. You can heat them with a hand held hair dryer to help things along and sometimes a rolled up paper towel under the gasket temporarily will help it form. The magnets will gain strength gradually so keep working at it. In extreme cases you might even have to tape the door closed overnight till things form in
