Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Contact with Freon leak causes burn
A few days ago, a Freon line busted in our freezer(atop the fridge). My husband held his thumb over the hole until I could get our young daughter out of the house. Now his thumb is very sore, looks like the skin is dying, and is slightly purple. Is this something that should cause us worry, will it go away soon, or should he see our doctor?
He probably got frost bite on it. When refrigerant expands rapidly it becomes very cold. I’ve burned myself many times even by taking the hose off my charging cylinder. If it was Freon R12 ( this will be indicated on the name plate of the fridge ) there are no toxicological implications. R12 was used for years in deodorant, hairspray, and as a propellant in asthma puffers and never harmed anyone. Should he see the doctor? Perhaps if it’s really sore or gets infection in it.
