Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Frost is building up just one corner of the coils
I was hoping you might be able to give me some recommendations on a GE fridge/freezer I am having problems with. It is about 1987, no frost, 17.7 cubic feet, Model TBX18B.
The problem is that frost is building up inside the freezer on the right side towards the back. Even with the dial turned up to the coldest setting, nothing is totally freezing and we have lost most of the meat we had stored. Any assistance or recommendations would greatly appreciated.
Thank You, Thawed Out
Hi Thawed Out,
Oh oh, sounds serious. You likely have a Freon leak. Some GE designs about this era used steel instead of copper for the suction line(the largest pipe coming into the compressor), then they consequently rust through. You could get the suction line replaced but chances are the system has pulled moisture into it.
If you get it repaired, make sure you find the best tech. possible. Where I live in Canada this job costs about $130. Sorry to give you the bad news,
