Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Why is it so hard to find someone to patch a leak?

I have a small refrigerator that got a pin hole leak in the evaporator and leaked out the R12. I can't find anyone that will fix the pin hole and recharge the system. I sealed the pin hole to keep water out of the system. Don't they make a repair material to fix the leak? How much should someone charge me to repair a pin hole and recharge with R12? This is a small system. Thanks,

I used to patch evaporators but at present, in Canada here, it is illegal to do so because of environmental regulations re the ozone hole. This is likely true in your locality also.

It seems that no matter how well you patch these holes the patch ends up leaking again in a few years. This is likely due to the material the freezer box is made of and the constant expansion and contraction it goes through during operation. Sorry to give you the bad news.
