Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Cubes won’t break apart
Our icemaker overproduces - it produces too many ice cubes, with several misshapen cubes. Our ice bin often ends up with big frozen ice masses on the bottom too, as if there's been some melting and it's frozen up again. We have a Sears Kenmore 106.973160 that's about nine years old. The freezer and icemaker are on the bottom.
Does your ice maker tray flip over when dumping or does a comb go through? The reason I ask is because Sears used two different designs on this model.
I'm not sure but I'll check this evening - I believe it's a comb. One thing I noticed this weekend When it's working correctly, the ice cubes are shaped like an orange slice. Now, many of them are shaped like 2 orange slices fused together at the top forming a semi-circle. Also, instead of single cubes, they are all frozen together, kind of like a cylinder.
You could be getting too much water into the tray. If yours is the comb type, take off the front cover and you should see a cube size adjustment there. Turn it to make the cubes smaller.
Thank you so much, that worked.
