Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Fine mist of water comes from under the refrigerator
I have a Montgomery Ward freezer on top, model HMQ2292278, bought around 1983. It's started leaking onto the floor. I turned off the water to the icemaker, and cleaned under/behind it, then checked again 24 hours later to find water still accumulating on the floor. The drop pan was not full, so the water is not coming from runoff.
When I held my hand under the frig, I was able to see that there is a fine mist of water under the left front of the frig, and it starts misting whenever the frig is running.
I've noticed no reduction in cooling in either the freezer or cold section. Does it sound like a serious (costly) problem, or not. If it's going to cost much, I'll just go shopping for a new frig.
A fine mist of water must mean that the line going to the solenoid at the back, the pressure or feed line to the refrigerator, has a pinhole leak in it. (Not serious and would be there even if you got a new refrigerator).
Or another possibility for this misting is that perhaps water is leaking onto the condenser cooling fan. Is the tray underneath in the correct position? Perhaps the blades skim the surface of the water in the tray. By the way, it’s almost always worth getting a service call on a refrigerator just to see what it is before you go out and replace it. Over 90% of my in home repairs cost less then $100.
