Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Head makes a thumping noise
Fridge DR. - We have a Kenmore fridge - not sure about age ( fairly new) – it came with the house. We have a problem with the ice-maker. I believe there is a leak somewhere and it makes a thumping noise. Any suggestions on what we can do ourselves before calling a repair man?
thanks - "iceless"
Hi Iceless, you never mentioned where the leaking is coming from but I'll assume it is into the ice storage bin, which is the usual scenario when you get thumping.
If this is the case, your ice maker may have clumped a load of cubes and now the water is overflowing the tray.
This sometimes happens with older ice makers. You could try to melt down the ice clump with a blow hair dryer, and remove the water in the tray with a turkey baster or sponge.
This sometimes will reset things and it may be OK for a while, but if it gives further problems consider purchasing a new ice maker head and replacing your original. Sears will be able to give you a price for a new head, or if you are not capable of doing it yourselves, get a technician to take a look at it. Remember though, most companies don't want to install something you have already purchased or tried to install.
