Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Ice maker control arm fell off
I have a Magic Chef Refrigerator, 2 door, upright with an Ice-Dispenser. Model #RC20LN-3AW, serial #AU39135392. The ice dispenser arm has broken off. That's the one on the outside that allows the ice to drop out. How do I repair it? How can I get to it to replace it? Does the front plate come off? Back plate inside? Where can I get a replacement part? Thanks for your help.
This is unusual. You should be able to order parts for this head from any large appliance parts supplier in your area. I would suggest removing it from the refrigerator first then taking it apart to see what part you actually need. It could be the support that holds the arm in or just that the arm has come out of position in its receptacle. In this case you won't even need to take it apart or need any parts. Some of these arms are meant to come out.
If you do need to take it apart, be prepared for a very mechanically-apt job though. Working on these machines is somewhat like working on a clock. Make sure you make a mental note of where everything goes and how it's put together as you go along. The parts store may be able to give you a diagram of the head out of their shop manuals.
