Ice maker makes ice intermittently

My ice maker is weird, sometimes it makes ice like it suppose to, then it doesn't make ice . Checking, it has water and is freezing but will not release. Taking a hair drier you can get it to release. leaving it alone it works sometimes and sometimes it doesn't. What is the deal?

Hi, if it gets water up to the tray and acts like it does it likely has a worn out head. Heads are sometimes rebuilt by companies that rebuild timers but most of the time it's just better to get a new one.
