Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Ice maker not working after a move, here was the solution
I have a problem, I bought an ice maker for my Maytag fridge three years ago, worked great. we just moved a few months ago and the ice maker stopped working, This is the add on type ice
maker, the fridge was made to accept one, I checked the connections and all seems well. About two weeks ago the ice maker began working again, water being pumped, ice being made, however after about two weeks it stopped making ice again, any advice?
Sounds like the motor inside the ice head got moisture in it that froze when the unit was plugged in after your move. This problem may have returned perhaps after a defrost cycle. You could try taking the head out, taking the cover off and thoroughly drying it out with a hand held hair dryer. Then lubricate any moving parts with a light oil.
Caution, don't use WD40. The head has electrical micro switches in it that can set the flammable substance in it ablaze and the perfume odor would be repulsive inside the cabinet.
Thanks for your suggestion. I took the cover off the head and dried out the mechanism with a hair dryer. It must have been moisture as you thought because it works well now. Thanks.
