Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Ice maker shoots ice out onto floor

I have an Admiral side-by-side refrigerator/freezer with an ice machine. You can access ice and ice water through the freezer door. The other day the ice machine came on by itself and started shooting ice out of the opening. We have a lock feature on it and turned that on to stop the ice. The ice will not come out of the door at all now and I have to reach into the freezer ice bin to get ice. How can I repair this problem?

Check first for a cube perhaps stuck in where it shouldn't be. If not, it seems the micro switch that activates the ice auger is burnt out in closed position. This is unusual, it usually happens the other way.

To repair it you need to take the door mechanism apart and install a new switch. The switch is inexpensive but working on these is a bit like taking apart a clock.
