Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Makes ice but cubes are hollow
I have a Whirlpool Model ED22DQ with water and ice dispensing system. The problem is water dispensing system quit working and about 50% of the made ice is hollow. Is there a filter which requires replacement or a line which may be plugged? What can I do to repair it?
Hollow usually means that there is not enough water entering the cube tray. This can happen for 4 reasons:
One, the adjustment under the front cover is set too low.
Two, ice restricts the flow of water into the tray. Check to see if the tube that comes in through the back wall is clear.
Three, the solenoid at the back where the water line is connected is worn and not delivering enough water.
Four, the supply line is not delivering enough. Usually a clogged inline filter or corroded valve at the source.
