Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

New installation not working

I have installed a new icemaker to my GE refrigerator. Water is getting to the icemaker yet it still does not work. Someone mentioned that it might be the regulator. Could this be the problem? If so what and where is it? How difficult is it to replace or repair?

It's hard to say what could be wrong in this case. I mainly answer questions on certain designs that are acting a particular way.

It may be just that you have to wait a while. Ice makers do take a day or so to get going. As far as I know a refrigerator does not have a regulator and neither does an ice maker. If you have the ice maker wired in right and it still doesn't work, either it's the head or the solenoid. You can test the solenoid by wiring it to line voltage to see if it delivers water to the tray, (and get rid of any trapped air) If it's not the solenoid or the wiring then you can assume you have a faulty head. It is not your fault that it’s defective so don’t even try to repair the part itself. Return it to the store where you bought it and get another.
