Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Not enough ice made

We have a Montgomery Ward refrigerator with an icemaker model HMG-9012 It is a top mount refrigerator. It is about 8 years old. The icemaker is our problem right now. The last couple of years the icemaker has been slow on making ice but we managed, but this year it hardly makes any ice at all. The cubes are regular size but just not abundant What can we do to fix the problem with out calling for repair?

Most of the time when I've come across this situation it's the motor in the ice maker head that is worn out. The easiest way to get it repaired is by installing a new head. If you want to give it a go, the motor inside the head can be ordered at most appliance parts suppliers but you'll need someone who has experience with these that can take the head apart and test the motor out first, to go this route. I know in some parts of your country you can send the head in to get it rebuilt but I'm not sure where. You could phone around to some of your local technicians for more information on this.
