Water dispenser problem

General electric. before the water dispenser quit working, the handle you would depress to get water was firm when pushed. now it is loose and no water. can I repair it myself? if so, what part would I need? Thanks.

From what I can gather your lever to operate the solenoid switch is likely broken or cracked. This happens quite often. Take the front cover off and take a close look. If you can get water to come out by depressing the micro switch the lever should press, you will just need a new lever. If not it will be the switch. Phone the nearest GE parts depot with your model number and they should be able to get it for you.
