Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Water dispenser works but no ice
The ice maker on my Whirlpool won't make ice even though the water dispenser on the front door is working. Can you give me any ideas as to what might be wrong?
Refrigerators with ice makers and water dispensers have a dual solenoid. Sometimes the ice maker side can become disconnected or faulty. Or perhaps the ice maker itself is not sending voltage down to the device.
You could test the latter by temporarily hooking up the ice maker side to line voltage. If you get water, it's the head. If you don't, it's the solenoid.
Or another way is by temporarily interchanging the wire jacks that go to the tops of the solenoids. Observe to see whether water enters the ice maker tray when you put a glass under the dispenser. Here again, if you get water, it's the head. If you don't, it's the solenoid.
