Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Incompetent technician?
Hi! great site very informative. I have a lady Kenmore 25 model # 7690841 serial # S93510793 type 25ASR79 six months ago it quit working I had a repair guy come out and he changed the defrost timer it seamed to work fine till last week it quit again I called the same guy he came out and replaced the defrost timer again he also put some kind of meter on it and said the heater was drawing 600 watts well the next day it went out again so he came back out and said its possible it could of been a bad timer so he replaced it again. I asked what if it does it again and he said he has no idea what it could be because its getting power and its drawing the right wattage. Guess what it keeps doing it!! I have to keep putting the timer in manual defrost then it works for a day and goes out again do you have any clue what could be the problem
If the circuit works and the refrigerator defrosts when the timer is advanced manually, then it would stand to reason that the timer’s motor isn't running. Some Kenmore refrigerators have the timer motor wired across the defrost and run contacts, not the hot and neutral as most others. A quick look at your wiring diagram should indicate this. Did this tech even look at this?
Or, perhaps the neutral wire to the timer motor is not delivering. A voltage test across the timers motor should confirm this. I would advise getting a different technician in on this one. After the timer didn’t work the first time this is the first thing that should have been checked. Hope this helps,
