Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

A dangerous situation storing a substance that can give off flammable vapors

I have a SIGNATURE fridge. I keep it for my home brew so it isn't critical and I keep it on the porch. What it's doing: high temp. Unwanted ice formation in the freezer portion. I think it's a frostless? It's been doing this for about 9 months, so I probably had 1 problem and now have 2/3 due to neglect. What little I know to check is the compressor motor, the defroster mechanism and the electrical thingy that tells it to turn on/off. Am I correct in those assumptions? How do I diagnose what part to replace? And how do I get the parts and manual for this fridge.

Well, even refrigerators used for home brew break down. Listen, I don't know if you know this but you must make sure the alcohol is sealed during storage.

There was an elderly lady in my city last year that was making some alcohol from potatoes in her refrigerator. Her design had the defrost timer situated inside the cabinet. Seems the alcohol vapors built up then a spark from the timer set it off. No one was hurt, but there was over $10,000.00 damage to her apartment. The story was all over the local newspapers.

Try and explain that one to the insurance company. Even though yours may not have the timer mounted inside it likely has a cold control which can cause enough of a spark to get things going.

Anyway, I don't know if you can get the technical manual for a SIGNATURE refrigerator, but I do sell a book and video that will show you how to repair it yourself. The icing up is likely to do with a defective component of the automatic defrost circuit. These are not too hard for someone with normal mechanical inclinations to replace.
