Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

A homemade freezer alarm

I would be very grateful if you could send me any information on freezer alarms. As I am a year 10 student at Okehampton College doing an electronics project and I am making and designing one. If you could send me any info on the sizes, shapes, colour etc..

I am doing this because I have not found any freezer alarms currently on the market so I need some help.

Hm, I don't have much to do with the internal workings of freezer alarms I just buy them and install them. However, to make one you wouldn't really need to get too much involved with electronics unless you wanted to. A freezer alarm could be easily done electrically also.

All you need to do is set up a circuit which switches on and energizes an audio device when the temperature gets up toward 0C or 32F. Electrically, run a universal freezer cold control set on min. in series with a 120VAC buzzer or bell. Electronically, you may have to get into thermisters which are temperature reacting solid state devices.

Radio Shack may be a good source for an electronic circuit that does this. Look in hobby project books. I've noticed that a freezer alarm is quite a common electronics hobby project. You may even be able to purchase a kit.
