Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Converting a small freezer into a fridge

Hi, I was looking for a used mini-fridge to put in my office and was given a mini-freezer. Seems to work great, but even on the minimum setting it gets down to 20F. Wondering if there is a way to change it so that it doesn't freeze, just chills at around 35F or so. Looked at the thermostat and don't think there's enough play in it between "off" and "minimum cool" to make a difference there. any ideas? thanks

Yes when I think of it, it's possible. You need to replace the original control with a universal one used for a heat leakage defrost system.

Up in Canada where I live from the part number is VT9. This is a control that makes a humid plate suitable for refrigerator temperatures and would work in your situation. If that part number is not good ask for a universal control kit for a 2 cabinet design refrigerator. Let me know the result of this so I can pass it on.

I looked at the control and thought it might be better to call a technician in to do this for our office. The tech brought out and installed a VT9 control but he was skeptical on whether this would work or not. But I’m happy to announce it works perfectly well. Thanks for the advice.
