Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Gives off too much heat in the kitchen
I have a Hotpoint, refrig/freezer(up)model#CTF18E. I realize all refrigerators give off heat. But ours seems to give off an excessive amount. Could there be something wrong with it, or is there
something we could do to minimize the amount of heat it gives off. Thanks. Sweating in the Kitchen!
I have seen a few rare cases with burnt out defrost timers where the defrost element stays on while the refrigerator is running. This will cause a lot of heat but in this situation the food in the freezer will be thawing as well. If your freezer is not thawing out it would rule out the aforementioned situation.
Otherwise, check to see if the unit is clogged with an excessive amount of dust and that the condenser fan, (if it has one,) is running whenever the compressor is. Two other things that can cause heat, if it has an econo switch change the position of the switch to normal. If it has a butter heater in the door you could disconnect it if you don't use this feature. Normally, fridges do give off a lot of heat though, that's what they do to cool the inside of the cabinet. To make things worse, the higher the temperature in your kitchen the more heat they will give off.
