Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Melted around the light bulb, a tenant and landlord dispute.

I have to ask you for advice, my sister is renting an apartment, and her fridge melted inside. The case around the inside of the fridge was melted by the light bulb. The management blamed my sister and said she put something hot in the fridge. My sister argued she never did. Should they be able to charge her for the replacement of the fridge?

They also said it may have been the bulb, that it had a 60 watt bulb instead of a 40 and that may have caused the burn. First of all she got the fridge used so the previous owner may have replaced the bulb. So if my sister did not do this what else would have caused this fridge to malfunction and melt.

A 60 watt light bulb would not have burned the inside unless the door was left open , perhaps all day. What you should do in this case is hire a technician from a reputable company in your city to determine what the actual cause of the burn was.

Ask him to put the reason on his bill and then take it to your landlord. If your sister didn't cause this she has nothing to worry about as the technician should be able to find out exactly what happened. In this case the cost of the service call should be paid by the landlord also.
