Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

New bulb, light still won’t work. Other bulb on same switch works

Live in the USA. Have a side-by-side Whirlpool frig that is about 15+ years old. The freezer section has 2 lights in it. One light has gone out; the replacement bulb does not work - nor does the good bulb in the freezer work when you put it in this socket. Any ideas on what to check? Thanks.

Unless the wire is off underneath, sometimes the rubber collar on these lights gets stiff and hard preventing the bulb from turning in all the way. I've had to trim some of them off with a razor knife then the bulb would make contact with the bottom terminal.

Otherwise, sometimes you can use a small screwdriver, with the refrigerator unplugged, to pull the bottom terminal in the center of the socket that makes contact to the bulb contact up higher.
