Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Sub Zero unit acting strange

We have a sub zero refrigerator 12 years old--it has freezer on top--there is only one control knob --inside refrigerator--none in freezer--lately temperatures have varied causing sometime too cold in refrigerator section and too warm in freezer---is there a thermostat that should be replaced??--is it by the knob?--thank you for any help you can give---

Sub Zero units are unusual. Many times they are commercial units adapted for residential applications, but not always. Over the course of their history, the company made many changes and adaptations so I would have a difficult time answering your question.

If you say the refrigerator section freezes but the freezer is not cold enough this could mean low refrigerant levels on a domestic design with one compressor, but on a sub zero this could mean something entirely different. Normally though when a thermostat goes the unit is too cold in both sections.

Sorry I can't be more helpful in this case than to say perhaps find a good technician. There is an article back on my web site that can help you with your choice.
