Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Using a deep freeze for a computer enclosure

I am thinking of assembling the computer inside of a medium size freezer. The idea is to cut the noise generated by the computer and to provide an additional cooling so the computer can work at higher speed. However the computer consumes 150-200 W of power and most of it is being converted to heat. Can you recommend me a freezer that can handle this kind of heat. Basically I need a small size and a lot of freezing power. Regards,

So you want to over clock. No one has asked me this before but when I think of it and the power levels you're talking about, I would think just about any domestic freezer would work. Even if the computer put out 200 W, typical small freezers have 1/8 hp compressors which should be able to handle it.

You could try an experiment first. Place an ice cream pail of water and a 200W light bulb in one and close the door for a test run.

What I worry about though is the hard drive. I think they may cause problems at anywhere lower than room temperature so you may want to check on this first. Also, frost will be your enemy too. Whenever you open the freezer door condensation from moisture in the air would condense on everything inside, including the motherboard. This could spell trouble as well.
