Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Water leak because freezer compartment too full?

What is the correct fullness allowable for optimum freezing. I do keep vents free in the front of the freezer because it isn't that full. There are a couple of inches at the top of free space. I haven't looked in back yet for vents. I do pack against the back.

The maintenance person in my apartment complex claims it is because I have the freezer full and no air circulating. I already don't think too highly of this individual for other reasons, so I don't know whether to take him seriously or not.

Your intuition about the maintenance man is correct. He either truly doesn't know what he's talking about or he's pulling your leg. A water leak would never be caused by overloading. As to why your particular refrigerator is doing this I don't know but the most common cause is a plugged defrost drain fitting or tube. It should be repaired soon as well, as the high humidity levels inside the cabinet in this situation are hard on the refrigerator.

About the volume of frozen food stored; as long as you don't restrict the vents, (and of course the door closes ), there is no design limit suggested by the engineers by any design that I'm aware of. Actually, a full freezer runs just a little better because it has more "thermal inertia" than an empty one. Not enough to suggest to make sure your freezer is full but a little anyway.
