Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Refrigerator gets ice plug in drain fitting
My Amana refrigerator, model TM18BNL, has a problem with the defrost water drain tube freezing closed. The defrost water runs out of the drain basin and pours into the interior of the fridge. I took off enough pieces to access, thaw and dry the area. I made sure the piece was not clogged. I checked the freezer and refrigerator. compartment temps for 24 hours to make sure they were in range. Now it's pouring water into the interior again and the evaporator pan remains dry, so I'm sure it's frozen again. Any way to correct this problem? Thanks,
The line after the part you cleaned out to the drain pan is plugged. In these situations the backup water will turn to ice if it stays in this fitting. Clean the pipe at the back and then use a turkey baster to test. You should be able to pour water all the way through and the water should end up in the drain pan. If not, you need to clean out the line.
