Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Do you need to turn it off to move out and away from the wall?

We have an old chest freezer and a newer Lec fridge. We would like to decorate behind them, which means we have to move them a bit. Do we have to switch them off and defrost before moving them or is it okay to shift them when they are switched on?

No, you can leave them plugged in as long as the cords are long enough so they don't get yanked on. One thing that sometimes happens to certain designs of compressors is that they can start spinning around on the inside of the case if they are running when moving. You’ll hear a loud rattling noise. If this happens, immediately turn it off. Wait for about 20 minutes for the pressure to equalize, then turn on again.
