Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Vintage refrigerator turned over in flood, now not working
I have my Grandmother's 1935 GE Refrigerator that was working perfectly until it got turned over in a flood and the coolant leaked out. Is there any way to repair this beauty?
The refrigerant shouldn't have leaked out on turning over due to the fact that all systems are pressurized. The liquid doesn't stay in due to gravity. What likely happened is the oil in the compressor tank got into the condenser in liquid form, which prevents refrigerant flow and subsequent circulation.
In any case, unless you have all the equipment there is nothing you can do to resolve the problem yourself except making sure you pick the right technician to repair it. Not too many of us have experience on these vintage models so you may have to phone around first. Insist on someone with experience with this type of refrigerator. There is an article back on my web site you may find helpful called "Finding a Good Technician". However in this situation you may be better off calling a GE tech. Good luck with it.
