Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Growls from the freezer compartment

Hello, I have a question I hope you can give me some insight to. My fridge is making a 'growling' noise.. it is fairly old and I got it used. It seems like it always did make a noise ever since I got it.. but it is making a much louder noise right now. I traced it down without taking it apart.. and it is coming from the top center.. and it is at least twice as loud if I open the freezer door. My fridge is the freezer on top and the fridge on the bottom type. Well anyideas? And if you know the problem is it a job I could do myself? If not how much am I looking at to get it fixed? Thanks a lot for your time.

Sounds to me like you have a bad evaporator fan motor. These are not hard to replace however the price and difficulty to install varies from model to model.

Ball park though most fan motors are around $30.00. If you are at all handy you may be able to do this yourself, especially with the help of my book or video. To get a tech in to do this repair costs approximately $100, depending on where you live.
