Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:

Unit has an intermittent squeal and is louder when open the freezer door

I have 20 year old Kenmore fridge(freezer up, coil on bottom of the fridge not on a back of the fridge) which has been very dependable until a couple days ago. This started to make high pitched noise. The noise seems louder when I open a freezer door. Maybe the fan or motor or something is making the high pitched noise. This noise doesn't stay all the time. Some time it stops by itself and everything seems normal. Do you think my guess is correct?( Is there anything around that area to become bad?) Do you think it needs to be replaced or time to buy a new fridge? I really think in back of freezer section making noise but I can't get in from back panel of fridge. only from inside to get in.

I've seen this happen many times before. The noise comes from a worn bearing so what you have is a worn out evaporator fan motor.

To call in a tech to do this, depending on where you live would cost between $70 and $120. Or if you want to do this yourself these motors are usually around $20. My online book can help you if you need more information about replacing it.
