Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Side by side Whirlpool got warm inside
I have a twenty year old Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator that got warm last night. The temp in the frig part is 48 degrees and the freezer is 38 degrees. I vacuumed the coils but no improvement. Everything sounds fine except for the warm temperatures which of course caused everything to melt in the freezer section. The refrigerator has NEVER been serviced. Any thoughts as to the demon Thanks,
I believe your model has a fan to cool the compressor down in the enclosure that houses it. This fan can be intermittent or stop altogether. The compressor will then overheat and cut out.
Make sure the fans and compressor run in unison. If the condenser fan works, or your design didn't have one in the first place, get right down there and see if the compressor itself is running. If you put your hand on the case you should be able to feel it vibrating.
If it is in fact running, you may have an automatic defrost problem which you can track down and repair yourself with the help of my book or video. If there is frost visible on the back wall of the freezer, for sure you have a defrost problem. Let me know what you find out.
