Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Odor fills the whole house
My refrigerator is emitting an odor that fills the whole house. what can it be and how can I correct the before someone gets sick from it? Thanks
If the unit is still working okay then it's not a system problem. Domestic units only have 4 to 8 ounces of refrigerant present so if you were smelling gas it would soon stop cooling.
You likely have a bacteria growing on starch that has circulated and built up on the inner surfaces. Do you store potatoes, carrots, or onions uncovered in the unit?
Usually a thorough cleaning with dishwasher detergent gets rid of this problem. If it persists let me know and I can send you a far more time consuming but effective method. Hope this helps.
