Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Odor started after a water problem has been solved
I had water under the hydrator drawers, but I vacuumed under the fridge, and cleaned out the tube that runs along the back of the unit. Also the rubber neck which connected the tube. I got rid of the collected water, but two weeks later it still smells funny. I have tried baking soda in a pan on a shelf. Still smells. I cannot thank you enough if you have the solution!
This is an unusual one. I’m thinking you may still have high humidity levels because of your previous water problem. Some of the insulation underneath the breaker strips (the plastic edge pieces around the door opening) may still have moisture with odor-causing bacteria in it.
Usually odors that linger on in these situations are not sweet by any other description. See if you can purchase some activated charcoal. You can usually find it in pet stores as it is also used in fish tank filters.
Get quite a bit of it for you want to place a fairly large quantity in open 9x12 cake pans. Place one each section and stir them up every 2 days or so. Before you do this though, make sure to thoroughly clean every square centimeter of the inside cabinets, including the door gaskets, the underneath of the crisper drawers etc. with a hospital grade germicide which you can purchase at chemical supply companies.
