Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Chest type runs but doesn’t cool, worth repairing?
Hi, my chest type freezer runs and is controlled by the thermostat. The compressor seems to be a little noisy and vibrate, but appears to be running. There is no cooling at all. The lines are warm. All the food spoiled ........Is this thing repairable? Thanx
Doesn't sound good. When a chest type freezer runs but doesn't cool it usually means one of two things. Refrigerant has leaked (rusted lines in between the two walls where you can't get at them) or a weak compressor (runs but not pumping enough). In either case you can likely get a new freezer for not that much more than it would cost to repair it, if it could in fact be repaired in the first place. Most of the time in this situation I find getting a service call to get it checked is a waste of time and money. Sorry to give you the news.
