Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Condensation on the bottom causes water on the floor
Hello, For sometime now my freezer has a very bad condensation problem underneath and on some of the outside walls, and water drips all across the floor! Please could you tell me if it's repairable or do I need a new one . The model No. is Hotpoint Ice Diamond 8721. It isn't leaking, just condensing ! If you can offer any help I would be very grateful. Thanks, in anticipation of your answer.
Freezers will do this when the insulation gets wet. I'm not sure why this happens, perhaps vapor barrier malfunction, but when it does it's hard to solve. I've solved a few similar situations by taping plastic and insulation to the outside of the cabinet which prevents air and the moisture in it from contacting the area where the condensation is occurring. But you have to be careful what you cover over as the high side of the refrigeration system is mounted underneath some but not all of the outside walls on chest type deep freezes. Try leaving the lid open for a while and you should be able to feel where this is, as the active conducting surfaces will be warm to the touch. If you have a large area affected this may not be feasible. To get a grasp of what I’m talking about read the article back on my web site called "All about deep freezes"
