Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Frosted up suction line on upright deep freeze
I have an upright deep freeze that is actually working quite well, but I noticed yesterday that there was a puddle underneath it. Hmmm.... So I had a look, and one of the lines (hoses) into the compressor was actually encased in about 3 inches of ice. That can't be good. What is this an indication of? Should I be looking for a replacement?
A frosted over suction line can mean:
-Too much Freon, (wouldn't happen unless the system was recently repaired)
-Unit needs defrosting, (automatic malfunction if it is of this design or manual)
-Fan is stopped (if it has one)
Or if none of the above, I find this can happen when the compressor is near to the end of it’s life. If the water on the floor is much of a nuisance you could insulate this line but the trade off is that the compressor may burn out even sooner.
A frosted suction line indicates liquid refrigerant in the pipe. It’s hard on the compressor to be sucking liquid in the first place and insulating the line will make it slightly worse.
