Frequently Asked Questions About Domestic Refrigerator Repair:
Where do I get a new generic control?
I need a replacement thermostat for a small Summit International (Model FC-45) chest-type freezer. Do you know of anyone handling parts for this brand? If not, can you suggest a source most likely to have a generic thermostat with the following requirements: 2.1 amp (run current), 115 Vac, 170 Watts, with a 0-degree Fahrenheit mid-position control set-point, and a capillary tube about a foot long. Considering the rather low power factor, and starting current, the contacts should have at least a 10-15 amp rating for reasonable life. Thanks for any help you can give.
The chances of finding a generic control are pretty slim but a universal will work just fine. All domestic freezers work within the same temperature ranges so you don’t really need the original for proper operation. Try a VF3 universal kit, or ask at an appliance parts store.
