Amana leaks when call for water

I have an Amana side-by-side refrigerator/freezer, Model # SRD26VW,
approximately 4 1/2 years old. It has an automatic ice and water dispenser,
trademarked as:Ice 'N Water, in the front door. Beginning today, there
isn't any water coming from the water dispenser when the pedal is depressed.
The refrigerator makes a sound as if it should be dispensing water, though
it doesn't. Looking underneath the refrigerator while depressing the
dispenser pedal, it appears that water leaks from an unknown source that is
located approximately in the middle of the refrigerator on the underneath
left side. (This is below the freezer side of the refrigerator. After it
leaks out, it comes in contact with a section of the black coils then it
drains down to make a puddle on the floor. Trying to dispense ice yielded
the same result of leaking water.

Does this problem sound like it can be easily identified and remedied
without the need for a service call? If this is something I can do as a
novice, I would greatly appreciate any help you have to offer me in fixing
it myself.

So it sounds like you have a rupture in the feed line to the water
dispenser. This job may get complicated because of where the leak is. To
repair it you need to first locate exactly where the hole is and then cut
out the ruptured section of nylon line and install a coupling there. These
couplings or more nylon line you may need can be purchased at just about any
hardware store and are also used on such things as humidifiers.

If the rupture is directly underneath you may have to lean the fridge over
against a wall. Use a blanket or area rug in between so you don't damage the
wall. Remove anything from inside of the cabinet that would spill, tape the
doors shut with duct tape, and move it far enough away from the wall you're
going to lean it onto so when it leans it stays, about a 30 degree angle.
Before you go under it block it up so that if it does fall back level it
won't fall on you.

Your input is extremely helpful!

Hundreds of people visit these pages daily looking for information about household refrigeration equipment. Dissatisfied with a particular model or company? Solved a particular problem? Let us know. Even the smallest detail can help so many people.

For example, let us know that your particular refrigerator model had a burnt out freezer fan motor one month after the warrantee expired, then everyone knows that a fan failure on that model is a distinct possibility.
