High pitched noise on a Maytag side by side

Purchased a Maytag 21 cu. ft. refrigerator about a year ago. It has a
problem with noise. When the compressor is working at max., it makes a very
loud and irritating high pitched "ringing" sound. It has done this since
new. Is this common or is something wrong with the compressor? I have tried
the noise reduction techniques, helped somewhat but is still very annoying.
Thanks

Ringing is a characteristic of some compressors. You could get two identical
models with the same compressors in them, one may ring, the other won't.
Unfortunately, unlike other noises, this high pitched sound comes though
over all methods I or anyone else knows to try and quiet it down.

What makes this situation even worse is that some people are bothered by
this ringing and yet most others don't even hear it. The only resolve that I
know of is to replace the compressor. You may have a hard time getting
Maytag to do this expensive job though in this situation. Selling the unit
and getting another may be your best move. We're finding the Maytag side by
side isn't turning out to be a very dependable design anyway.

For example, let us know that your particular refrigerator model had a burnt out freezer fan motor one month after the warrantee expired, then everyone knows that a fan failure on that model is a distinct possibility.
