Installing a lock on a refrigerator

Can one safely install a hasp lock on a refrigerator door? Advice?

No, many designs have a high pressure Freon line just under the surface to
protect the doors from condensation and freezing at the gasket. As far as an
alternative to doing this, perhaps a bungie tie? You can drill into the door
itself to install a hook or loop and hook the other end into the condenser.
To keep the tie in place when not in use you could use one of those stick on
hooks you can get most anywhere.

Your input is extremely helpful!

Hundreds of people visit these pages daily looking for information about household refrigeration equipment. Dissatisfied with a particular model or company? Solved a particular problem? Let us know. Even the smallest detail can help so many people.

For example, let us know that your particular refrigerator model had a burnt out freezer fan motor one month after the warrantee expired, then everyone knows that a fan failure on that model is a distinct possibility.
